Motorcyle Mamas

You were either born to ride or you weren’t.  I was born to ride and I knew it the first time I saw a lady biker cruise past our car while staring out the window.  I was in the backseat of my parents cream-colored station wagon with that embarressing Western Sizzler tag in front.  I was at that age where you really didn’t WANT to be with your parents, but you don’t exactly despise it yet either.

Decades ago, biker ladies were either thought of to be a biker dudes ol’ lady or some sexy vixen posing on a motorcycle (some women DO ride in heels…I don’t know how, but they do).

Today the biker lady is anyone.  A teacher, a cashier, an anonymous person standing beside you in the elevator, a person picking out cantaloupe at the grocery store.

In the world of biker lady, there are some Stars.  Ladies we ALL know and look up to.  Women who live and breathe the lifestyle and embody everything it stands for.

Genevieve Schmitt:  Founder & Editor of Women Riders Now.  An online magazine about women and motorcyling that features news, motorcycle and product reviews all from a womans point of view.

Betsy Huelskamp:  Writer for Women Riders Now, personal trainer and climber of Mt. Everest.

Cat Hammes:  Lost her leg in a motorcycle accident in 2005.  Continues to ride.  Motivational Speaker.

Cris Sommers Simmons:  Road a 1915 Harley Davidson across the country, studied at Harvard Law school, married to guitarist Patrick Simmons of The Doobie Brothers.

Diva Amy:  Designs headwear and apparel.  Designs all hats worn by Brett Michaels.

Me:  Wife, Nana, dog lover.

My Sister JF: Wife, mother, marathon runner.

My friend DO:  Wife, mother, biker.  A recent widow who still rides and leads a full life despite her loss.

 Whether you ride or not, as women, we all have our inner Bada$$ selves and we all need to make sure we are in contact with her. Whether you pump iron, put on some heels to go shopping at the Winn Dixie, or put on some jeans and think Hmmmm…these make my butt look GOOD!!!!!  Get out there today and connect with her!!
